Tahini’s is Planning to Expand into New Jersey
A rapidly growing Canadian Mediterranean chain is preparing to enter the New Jersey market.
Tahini’s (Website), a fast-casual restaurant concept known for shawarma, bowls, wraps, and Mediterranean fusion dishes, is actively expanding into the United States — with New Jersey positioned as one of its first major growth markets.
Founded in 2012 in London, Ontario, by brothers Omar and Aly Hamam, the brand began as a single Mediterranean restaurant before rapidly growing throughout Canada through franchising. Today, Tahini’s has dozens of locations and has built a large online following through its bold “Eat Unbland” branding and fusion-forward menu.
The menu combines traditional Mediterranean staples with more modern and globally inspired items, including shawarma wraps, rice bowls, loaded fries, poutines, and fusion proteins like butter chicken shawarma and jerk chicken. The company has also leaned heavily into delivery, late-night dining, and social media-driven marketing as part of its expansion strategy.
As part of its U.S. growth push, Tahini’s is currently seeking franchise operators throughout New Jersey, with franchise materials specifically promoting the state as a target expansion market.
While no Bergen County locations have been announced, North Jersey will soon get its first taste of the brand with a location currently in development in Budd Lake along Route 46.
According to company materials and industry interviews, Tahini’s plans to aggressively grow its U.S. footprint over the next several years, positioning itself as a modern Mediterranean fast-casual alternative with strong franchise backing and a highly recognizable social media presence.
