Village Super Market Inc. is unveiling a newly expanded kosher market at its ShopRite supermarket in Livingston.
According to the family-owned and operated grocer, the redesigned space is considered one of the most comprehensive kosher destinations in the area.
Along with a more than 50% increase in product variety, the section brings together kosher deli, prepared foods, meat, grocery, dairy, frozen and seafood into one convenient location for customers.
The store’s selection of kosher grocery items now spans more than 1,500 items in one 150-foot aisle. Previously, the kosher grocery aisle was about 65 feet long with 800 products.
Following the eight-week remodel, kosher frozen favorites, like blintzes, gefilte fish, matzo ball soup, kosher pizzas, snacks and desserts also have their own aisle, too.
Other highlights:
- Kosher meat: over 30 varieties of freshly cut beef, lamb and veal prepared daily by in-store butchers, as well as special requests for custom cut briskets, ribs and turkeys
- Kosher dairy: more than 80 new items, such as cheeses, herrings, spreads and desserts
- Kosher daily & prepared foods: over 100 freshly made items, such as pulled rotisserie chicken, knishes, matzo ball soup, kugel and sushi
- Kosher seafood: premium, certified selections, including Faroe Island salmon and Atlantic flounder
Owned and operated by the Sumas family, Village Super Market is also a member of Keasbey-based co-op Wakefern Food Corp. Its footprint includes 30 ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland, as well as four specialty markets under the Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market brands in Manhattan.
‘A destination that delivers’
Village Super Market celebrated the official opening of the kosher market with a Nov. 6 ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the Sumas family, store management and Rabbi Yakov Teichman from the Vaad Harabonim of MetroWest in Livingston.

Commenting on the reveal, Village Super Market President Nico Sumas said, “This expansion is an incredible moment for Livingston. Our goal was to create a destination that delivers unmatched convenience, variety and value — making it easier than ever for local shoppers to find all their kosher needs in one place.”
Sumas noted, “ShopRite of Livingston has proudly served as a kosher destination since the 1990s and the goal is to make sure our stories reflect the unique needs of the communities they serve.”
“We’ve been listening closely to our customers and seeking their input … The renovation was about bringing in all the kosher products our customers are seeking and making the shopping experience more convenient and streamlined,” he said.
