A man who pointed a gun at someone inside a crowded restaurant last year has been convicted of multiple crimes.
Patrick Heaney, 62, of Monroe, was convicted by a jury last week of second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, fourth-degree aggravated assault and violating multiple state firearm carrying laws, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement on Wednesday.
Heaney was dining at Valenca Restaurant in Elizabeth on the night of Nov. 29, 2024, when he became involved in an argument with family members, authorities said. While in the crowded dining room of the restaurant, he took out a gun and pointed it at one of the people, officials said.
When police arrived, Heaney had already fled the scene. He was arrested the next day.
Attorney information for Heaney was not immediately available. He is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
