President Donald Trump brushed off the nationwide “No Kings” protests as a “joke” despite millions of Americans turning out for the demonstrations.
Demonstrations for “No Kings Day” took place across al 50 states and Washington, D.C. to protest against the Trump administration. Trump and his allies have downplayed the planned protests for weeks and accused the organizers of planning “Hate America” rallies.
Trump blasted the demonstrations as a “joke” in comments to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday.
“I think it’s a joke. I looked at the people, they’re not representative of this country,” Trump said.
He then accused Democratic megadonor George Soros of funding the protests despite presenting no evidence for his claims.
“And I looked at all the brand new signs paid for, I guess it was paid for by Soros and other radical left lunatics. It looks like it was. We’re checking it out,” he said.
He also argued that the protests were “very small” despite the organizers saying more than 7 million people showed up to rail against Trump.
“The demonstrations were very small, very ineffective, and the people were whacked out. When you look at those people, those are not representative of the people of our country. I’m not a king. I’m not a king. I worked my ass off to make our country great. That’s all it is. I’m not a king at all,” Trump added.
Trump mocked the protests in numerous posts on Truth Social over the weekend, including a video of him placing a crown on his head as Democrats kneeled before him. He also posted a video that suggested Trump should be president until the year “90,000.”
The protests drew massive crowds in cities across the country, including across multiple towns in New Jersey. Demonstrations were held in Atlantic City, Newark, Ocean City, Princeton, Rutherford, Teaneck and Wayne, as well as in Cape May Court House, Galloway Township, Glassboro, Pine Hill and Vineland.
