Jersey Mike’s Subs is partnering for a third year in a row with Best Buddies International to raise funds and awareness of the nonprofit’s mission of inclusion.
As part of the initiative, the Manasquan-based fast casual plans to donate 20% of sales Oct. 11 and 12 from its more than 3,100 locations nationwide to the organization.
Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies aims to create opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With nearly 3,800 chapters worldwide, Best Buddies’ programs serve more than 1.5 million people, helping them secure rewarding jobs, live independently and make lifelong friendships.
Jersey Mike’s is also continuing to work with Best Buddies to establish employment opportunities within its restaurants for individuals with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD). According to the franchise, the program has rolled out to 11 stores and counting.
‘A win-win for companies’
Shriver – the brother of journalist Maria Shriver and nephew of late President John F. Kennedy – commented, “Jersey Mike’s commitment to Best Buddies shows the powerful difference businesses can make when they lead with purpose and it demonstrates how inclusion drives both business success and social impact.”
“What’s more impressive is the company’s commitment to employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at Jersey Mike’s locations nationwide, which strengthens workplace culture and delivers measurable benefits to the bottom line. It’s truly a win-win for companies and the communities they serve,” he said.
Last year, Jersey Mike’s raised $4.3 million for Best Buddies. A total amount for the inaugural campaign in 2023 was not immediately available.
Charlie Morrison, the chain’s CEO, said Jersey Mike’s is pleased to support another effort for Best Buddies to help those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Jersey Mike’s founder and longtime former CEO, Peter Cancro, urged customers to participate this weekend and “’All Raise up’ together.”
