A popular New Jersey taco concept is preparing to debut a brand-new restaurant in Bergen County’s neighboring community.
Carlitos Tequileria is expected to open this June at 185 River Road in North Arlington, introducing an elevated Mexican dining experience from the team behind Carlitos Barbecue Taqueria.
Founded by Carlos Castillo, Carlitos first launched as a food truck in 2017 before expanding to locations at Garden State Plaza, Jersey City, Newark Airport and beyond.
The new Tequileria concept builds on that success with a full-service restaurant focused on bold Latin American flavors, handcrafted cocktails and an upscale yet welcoming atmosphere.
Featuring a menu that centers around street-style tacos made with house-pressed tortillas, featuring fillings like oak-smoked brisket, chicharrón and crispy fish, alongside shareable starters including guacamole, esquites, smoked wings and a five-salsa tasting.
Guests can also expect grilled specialties such as churrasco, carne asada, shrimp al carbón and smoked barbecue favorites that helped put Carlitos on the map.
The beverage program puts tequila and mezcal front and center with an extensive cocktail menu, including fresh-squeezed margaritas, palomas and signature agave-forward creations.
The restaurant will also pour Chelitas, an exclusive Mexican-style lager brewed in collaboration with Hoboken Brewing Co., along with a curated selection of wines and imported beers.
Designed to feel like a modern Mexican hacienda, the restaurant features warm earth tones, dramatic archways, lush greenery, private dining rooms and a spacious dining room highlighted by a large Mesoamerican-inspired mural. A rear patio overlooking the Passaic River will provide additional outdoor seating.
In addition to dinner service, Carlitos Tequileria plans to offer happy hour specials and late-night entertainment, creating a destination for both dining and nightlife.
