Fun May Holidays for Kids – A Holiday (or Something!) to Celebrate Every Day in 2026
June 1 – Start of Pride Month
Whether you’re a member of the Queer community or consider yourself an ally, we rounded up 25 ways to celebrate Pride Month this June with kids. June 2 – Rocky Road Day
Rocky Road was invented in 1929 and given its name to cheer people up during the Great Depression. What is it? Marshmallows and nuts (it started as walnuts and now is usually toasted almonds) to chocolate ice cream. Here’s our favorite recipe for making ice cream in a bag or jar at home. To this base, you can simply add chocolate syrup, shake, and then fold in mini-marshmallows and nuts!
June 3 – World Bicycle Day
Get out there and see the world on wheels for World Bicycle Day. If you’ve got a little one who hasn’t learned yet, we’ve rounded up 8 Tips To Teach Kids to Ride a Bike.
June 4 – National Cheese Day
Say cheese! Most kids love cheese. Three of the top kid-pleasing foods are cheesy: grilled cheese, mac and cheese, and pizza! Check out our recipe for homemade pizza, where you can pile on the cheese.

June 5 – National Donut Day
The first Friday in June has been National Donut Day since 1938! On this day, many national and local chains offer up free donuts as a sweet way to start the day. What kid will complain about that? Check your area’s calendar of events for participating donut shops near you!
June 6 – National Play Outside Day

June 7 – June Bug Day

June 8 – National Best Friend Day
That’s something we can all get behind – friendship! Gather everyone in the family’s bestie for a movie, meal, or party!
June 9 – Donald Duck Day
Can you talk like Donald Duck? Learn how to talk like Donald Duck with your kids today! Then watch some of Donald Duck’s greatest hits.
June 10 – Black Cow Day
Some people make a Black Cow with root beer, but to me, that’s just a root beer float. Here’s how my Grandma taught me to make her favorite summer treat:
- Drizzle 2 Tablespoons of chocolate syrup around the inside of a tall glass.
- Pour in one cup of Coca-Cola.
- Add one big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
- Let it melt for about 1 minute before drinking the Coke with a straw and then eating the ice cream with a spoon!
June 11 – King Kamehameha Day
King Kamehameha I Day is a holiday in Hawaii, honoring Kamehameha the Great, who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. It’s a great day to do the hula, drink a Dole Whip (we’ve got a copy cat recipe for it right here!), and maybe even plan your next family trip to Hawaii.
June 12 – Superman Day
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Superman! Talk about your family’s favorite superheroes—who and why!
June 13 – National Sewing Machine Day
If you have a sewing machine, fabulous! Today’s a great day to get it out and teach your kids to sew. If you don’t have a machine, try working on simple stitches together by hand. June 14 – Bastille Day
The storming of the Bastille prison is the beginning of the French Revolution. Honor our favorite French things you can do today:
- Have French toast for breakfast. (Or a croissant!)
- Sing along to the soundtrack of Les Miserables.
- Eat French fries with lunch or dinner.
- Watch a movie set in Paris with your kids: Ratatouille, Cat in Paris, and The Aristocats are kid-pleasers!

June 15 – National Lobster Day
If you’re in New England, this is an easy holiday to celebrate. If you’re elsewhere, read The Lobster Lady by Alexandra Hinrichs, the true story of Virginia Oliver, who was over 100 and the world’s oldest lobsterman. And maybe eat a few lobster lollipops.
June 16 – Apple Strudel Day
Though apples aren’t in season, Apple Strudel Day is a great day to cook with some of those apples that are going bad in the fridge. We rounded up 6 Easy Apple Recipes You Can Make with Kids.

June 17 – World Tessellation Day

June 18 – National Fishing Day
Today is National Fishing Day. While you can definitely find a local spot near you to go fishing (type “fishing” in the search box in the upper right corner of the website to find places to fish and fishing events near you), you can also play Let’s Go Fishin’, or play the card game Go Fish. June 19 – Juneteenth
Juneteenth, the holiday that observes and commemorates the end of slavery in America, was designated a federal holiday in 2021, making it our newest national holiday! We put together a primer for kids on what Juneteenth is and how to recognize, honor, and celebrate this day.
June 20 – Ugliest Dog Day
Best ugly dog ever: Dogpool! If your kids are too young to watch Deadpool, maybe watch Sparky in Frankenweenie!
June 21 – Father’s Day
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandpas, and father figures out there! Here are 100 awesome, groan-worthy dad jokes to celebrate with!

What a great day! Just be kind to someone today! We rounded up 25 Simple Acts of Kindness for Kids, and I promise, doing something kind will make your day a whole lot brighter.
June 23 – Pink Day
Throw a pink party for Pink Day! Everyone can wear pink clothes, decorate the house with anything pink, and serve only pink food for dinner! For a festive drink, try serving either a Shirley Temple or a Watermelon Cooler, from our fabulous Mocktails for Kids Recipes, both of which are pink.
June 24 – International Fairy Day
Make a Fairy Garden to celebrate International Fairy Day!
June 25 – Eric Carle’s Birthday
Eric Carle wrote many beloved books for kids, but perhaps the best and most loved of all is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. That’s why it’s at the top of our list of the Best Books for Babies and Toddlers.
To celebrate, with kids of all ages, re-read the book and make a dinner for the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It should have: one apple, two pears, three plums, four strawberries, and five oranges in a fruit salad. Then follow it up with: chocolate cake, ice cream, a pickle, Swiss cheese, salami, a lollipop, cherry pie, a sausage, a cupcake, and watermelon. Or some combination of those foods!
June 26 – National Food Truck Day
Any excuse not to make dinner! But Food Truck Day is a wonderful day to go find some local street food and enjoy.
June 27 – National Bingo Day
Play summer BINGO – we made the free, printable cards for it! Don’t forget to sing the song today, too!
