Firefighters on boats battled a building fire on a pier near the Navy Yard and Girard Point Bridge in South Philadelphia on Tuesday.

The fire started around 12:50 p.m. at a building on a pier along the 2600 block of Penrose Ferry Road.
When firefighters got to the scene, they were faced with heavy fire and smoke, officials said.
