The Eagles are interviewing former Giants head coach Brian Daboll for their offensive coordinator opening, according to Fox Sports insider Jordan Schultz.
NFL insider Dianna Russini also reported earlier this week that Daboll was one of Philadelphia’s top OC candidates. His past experience working with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni could make him a natural fit for the position.
Daboll was on the Alabama staff that benched Hurts in the 2018 National Championship game, so that could create an odd dynamic. But the Eagles likely wouldn’t be interested in Daboll without Hurts’ stamp of approval.
Despite struggling with the Giants, Daboll is still considered one of the best offensive minds in the NFL. Before getting hired as New York’s head coach in 2022, the former Bills offensive coordinator was credited for developing quarterback Josh Allen.
The Eagles need Hurts to improve next season after a down year. Daboll already has a good understanding of Hurts’ strengths and weaknesses from coaching him at Alabama and facing him in the NFL.
In 2012, Daboll was the offensive coordinator and Sirianni was the wide receivers coach for the Chiefs. They should be able to work well together despite both of them having short tempers. Sirianni would trust Daboll’s opinions and let him call the shots on offense.
Daboll was a disaster in his four seasons (2022-2025) as the Giants’ head coach, which ultimately led to his firing in November. He could get his career back on track as Philadelphia’s next OC.
