RWJBarnabas Health and Englewood Health signed a definitive agreement under which Englewood Health will become part of RWJBarnabas Health.
The transaction aims to expand access to care and enhance services across Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties, as well as surrounding communities. It remains subject to state and federal regulatory approvals.
Englewood Health is one of the state’s leading health care systems. Together, Englewood Hospital and the Englewood Health Physician Network boasts a system of more than 800 office- and hospital-based providers. If approved, it would join RWJBarnabas Health — New Jersey’s largest academic health system.
RWJBarnabas includes 14 hospitals, over 45,000 employees and 9,000 affiliated physicians.
The agreement will strengthen Englewood Health’s role as a comprehensive health care provider for Bergen County through significant capital investments by RWJBarnabas Health.
The partnership is expected to expand outpatient services and community health programs, improve access to care, and bring advanced academic medicine and cancer treatment closer to patients in the region.
Enhanced services

“Englewood Health has a long history of providing superior care to the residents of Bergen County and surrounding communities,” said Mark Manigan, president and CEO of RWJBarnabas Health. “We look to build upon this history together to enhance access to world-class academic medicine and cutting-edge cancer treatment, as well as expand community programs and vital resources for the most vulnerable.”
Manigan added that Englewood Health “shares a perspective and culture consistent with our mission of improving and sustaining the health of all New Jersey residents.” Englewood Health President and CEO Warren Geller said the transaction will position the system for long-term growth and innovation.
“This transaction will ensure Englewood Health’s ability to deliver world-class care to the communities we serve in a broader way, with greater resources and more cutting-edge technologies,” Geller said. “Our health systems are coming together under a shared goal of not just providing the best care but increasing access to that care.

“Through this partnership and by combining resources, we will have the ability to greatly enhance the services we provide to our communities in a way in which we would not be able to accomplish alone.”
“The changing health care landscape presents new challenges, but also great opportunities,” said Manigan. “We are eager to explore the many opportunities for collaboration signaled by this Definitive Agreement.”
