Officials Press the Case for Beach Funding in DC Meetings

Stone Harbor Mayor Tim Carney, who was unable to attend, underscored the importance of the discussions in a statement in which he said that without funding from the federal government “our ability to protect our shore and provide a safe, enjoyable experience for residents and visitors is seriously compromised.”
The Washington meetings came after it was revealed that the 2026 federal appropriations bills look as though the final budget will severely underfund beach replenishment.
The crisis began when federal funding for beach replenishment was taken out of the 2025 federal budget, postponing a number of scheduled replenishment projects in the county.
