NAIOP NJ, The Commercial Real Estate Development Association, will hold its first program of the year this week, offering a refresher on the New Jersey benchmarking program.
The hour-long virtual NJ Benchmarking Requirements Refresher Webinar: What You Need to Know event takes place Jan. 14 at 10 a.m.
New Jersey joins a growing number of states and municipalities across the U.S. to implement benchmarking programs to track the energy and water performance of buildings.
The state has two benchmarking programs offered through the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ Clean Energy Program. A mandatory initiative applies to buildings larger than 25,000 square feet. The other is free and voluntary for all other buildings, according to NJPBU. The agency defines commercial buildings via property tax assessment business class (covered classes include Class 4A Commercial and Class 4C Apartments).
NAIOP NJ notes tracking building performance helps identify opportunities to reduce operation costs, attract better tenants and increase property value.
The January benchmarking webinar is free to NAIOP members. Registration is required. More information is available here.
NAIOP will follow up the program Jan. 22 with its Annual Meeting & CRE Outlook Market Trends, Forecast & State Policy Insights at Hilton Short Hills.
Jeffrey Otteau, president and chief economist at the Otteau Group, will deliver the keynote at the 2026 meeting.
