One of South Jersey’s most politically connected law firms, Malamut Law, has named Dominic Rota, the Chief Ethics Officer and Ethics Counsel to Gov. Phil Murphy, as a partner in its government and regulatory affairs practice.
Rota, a state government veteran, will join the firm on February 2, about two weeks after Murphy leaves office.
“Dom Rota has been an integral member of my team for years, bringing exceptional legal insights, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to integrity to his work,” said Murphy. “As our chief ethics officer, he set the highest standards for ethical leadership and public trust across state government. I wish him well as he brings those same strengths and principles to the next chapter of his career.”
Prior to joining the governor’s office in 2022, Rota spent eight years at the New Jersey Department of Education, seven years at the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, and five years at the New Jersey Commerce Commission.
Rota led major ethics and employment investigations, advised on sensitive workforce and compliance issues, and managed substantial regulatory and litigation risk across state government. He worked closely with cabinet officials, agency leaders, HR teams, and outside counsel to deliver practical, defensible solutions in high-stakes, politically sensitive matters.
Adam Malamut, the firm’s managing partner, said Rota “brings a level of sophistication and perspective that will be a tremendous asset to our clients.”
“His depth of experience, sound judgment, and ability to operate at the intersection of law, policy, and leadership make him an exceptional addition to our government & regulatory affairs team,” Malamut said.
