Society’s “desire for a fresh start” inspired the selection of the 2026 Pantone Color of the Year.
Pantone 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is described as “a billowy white imbued with a feeling of serenity.”
“An ethereal white hue, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer serves as a symbol of calming influence in a frenetic society rediscovering the value of measured consideration and quiet reflection,” the global color authority added in the Dec. 4 unveiling.
“The cacophony that surrounds us has become overwhelming, making it harder to hear the voices of our inner selves,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement. “A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences.”
The “lofty white” is a stark contrast to the darker option chosen by Montvale-based paint, color and coatings brand Benjamin Moore & Co. as its Color of the Year – an espresso-charcoal hue called Silhouette.
A place for creatives
Pantone also announced a new initiative to support the artist community. Throughout the year, the company will release limited-edition designs from artists who create their own interpretation of Cloud Dancer.
The first – a tote bag created by illustrator, visual artist and author Emiliano Ponzi – will be available at Pantone.com.
