Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel took a playful shot at ESPN host Stephen A. Smith on Monday.
It all started when Cam Newton was critical of New England quarterback Drake Maye on “First Take” last week. When reporters asked Maye about the comments, he responded that he didn’t know what show Newton was on. Smith didn’t seem to like that answer and called Maye a “liar” on his next broadcast.
On his weekly appearance on WEEI on Monday, Vrabel was jokingly asked if he could put “First Take” on in the locker room for his players.
“We don’t have… I don’t even know if the TVs work in the weight room,” said Vrabel. “You know, we’re getting a new building so we’ll make sure the audio and everything works and that’s good.”
One of the hosts pressed further and said that “First Take” is the No. 1 show.
“Is it?” Vrabel asked. “I find that hard to believe. I find that hard to believe. It’s not the ”SportsCenter” that I grew up with.”
The Patriots nabbed their ninth straight win on Sunday with a 26-20 victory over the Bengals. New England improved to 10-2 with the win.
