Discount retailer Ocean State Job Lot is preparing to unveil its second store in Atlantic County.
Located at 4215 Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing, the 34,120-square-foot space is scheduled for a Nov. 22 grand opening, according to the Rhode Island-based chain.
Set to run from 8 a.m. to noon, the festivities will include $20 Ocean State Job Lot gift cards to the first 100 people in line. There will also be giveaways, free hot beverages (coffee and hot chocolate) and a visit from Santa Claus.
Founded in 1977, the chain sells an ever-changing array of brand-name, first-quality merchandise at closeout prices. Its products include household goods, apparel, seasonal products, specialty foods, kitchen pantry staples and pet supplies.
4215 Black Horse Pike, Mays Landing:
In Mays Landing, OSJL takes over an anchor space at Hamilton Commons previously occupied by Big Lots.
In the wake of Big Lots’ September 2024 bankruptcy, Gordon Brothers Retail Partners acquired the deep discount retailer. As part of the deal, Gordon Brothers facilitated the transfer of Big Lots’ brand, stores and distribution centers to other retailers.

Earlier this year, OSJL acquired 18 former Big Lots stores along the East Coast. Besides Mays Landing, OSJL also purchased sites in Barnegat, Somers Point and Cape May. Those repurposed locations have since opened as OSJL.
Considered the Northeast’s largest, privately held discount retailer, OSJL has 176 stores, employs 7,000 associates and generates annual sales exceeding $850 million, the company said.
Besides Barnegat, Cape May, Mays Landing and Somers Point, the brand has local stores in:
- Clinton
- Deptford
- Franklin Park
- Freehold
- Holmdel
- South Plainfield
- Sparta
Following the grand opening, Mays Landing will be open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
