Casey Grusser threw four first half touchdowns and also ran for a score as top-seeded Ramapo, No. 8 in the NJ.com Top 20, rolled to a 48-20 victory over fourth-seeded Wayne Valley in the NJSIAA/Xfinity North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 semifinals at Drew Gibbs Memorial Field in Franklin Lakes.
Three of those TD passes came in the second quarter where Ramapo (9-1) broke the game wide open.
Grusser’s 20-yard TD pass to Salvatore Livoti with 9:59 left in the second. The senior quarterback then threw TD passes to Joseph Yessis (9 yards) and Michael Ballan (16 yards) to push the lead to 42-7.
Grusser opened the scoring for Ramapo with a 44-yard TD pass to Yessis, then put his team ahead for good at 14-7 with a 1-yard TD run with 4:39 remaining in the first quarter.
Jack Schneider returned a first quarter interception 43 yards for a TD that made it 21-7 and Joey Gorga added a fourth quarter TD.
Ramapo, making its eighth consecutive trip to the sectional final, will host second-seeded and No. 9 Northern Highlands in the final.
Ramapo, which won the regular season meeting, 28-21, on Oct. 24, is seeking a third consecutive sectional title and 15th overall.
In defeat, Danny Ferrauilo threw three touchdown passes for Wayne Valley (7-4), two of them going to Jadon Cabrales in the second half for 19 and 94 yards.
Wayne Valley tied the game at 7-7 when Ferrauilo connected with Kyle Betz for a 24-yard TD pass with 6:30 left in the first quarter.
