U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona will stump for Democrat Mikie Sherrill on Sunday, headlining a rally in West New York with Mayro Albio Sires.
Gallego and Sires served together for eight years in the U.S. House of Representatives.
He is the second senator from Arizona to come to New Jersey to campaign for Sherrill in her bid next week to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy: Mark Kelly, a West Orange native, was elected
A U.S. Marine combat veteran who served in Iraq, Gallego won an open U.S. Senate seat last year after Krysten Sinema declined to seek a second term. Gallego defeated Republican Kari Lake in a close contest, 50%-48%. His chief of staff is Raphael Chavez-Fernandez, a New Jerey native.
Sires was elected to the House in 2006 after serving as the mayor of West New York and as Assembly Speaker. He left Washington after the 20022 election and returned to his mayoral post six months later.
