Nautically themed grocery chain Trader Joe’s is preparing to unveil its 20th store in New Jersey.
Located at 675 Route 1 South in Woodbridge, the 10,691-square-foot outpost is scheduled to open Oct. 29. Moments before the 9 a.m. grand opening, the store will hold a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony with the local team members, the chain said.

Following the launch of 34 locations last year, Trader Joe’s is working to open “dozens” of sites nationwide in 2025, trade publication Progressive Grocer reported. As part of its expansion strategy, the grocer aims to bolster its presence in states where it already has a footprint rather than moving into new states, according to Grocery Dive.
After Woodbridge, Trader Joe’s expects to launch a location in West Orange, the chain recently confirmed. Trader Joe’s has not revealed where or when it aims to open in the township, but Montclair Local reported the grocer will join the lineup at Mount Pleasant Plaza.
In Woodbridge, Trader Joe’s is taking over a former Bed Bath & Beyond store across from Woodbridge Center mall. The company said the new store has hired more than 60 new employees from surrounding areas. It also transferred workers in from other Trader Joe’s stores.
Additionally, through Trader Joe’s longstanding Neighborhood Shares Program, the location will donate 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit for consumption to a range of nonprofit, community-based organizations, seven days a week.
Following the grand opening, Trader Joe’s will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Trader Joe’s is located about 2.5 miles away from a new Sprouts Farmers Market that opened at Cloverleaf Retail Center in Woodbridge. The organic and natural grocery chain has four other in-state stores and another on the way in East Windsor.
