The Democratic National Committee is adding another six-figure investment to back Democrats in New Jersey this fall, adding to the $3 million already dedicated.
The announcement did not specify the exact amount of the new investment. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) has largely led in polls of the governor’s race, though the margins aren’t as large as Democrats have hoped. She faces Republican former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli in next month’s general election.
The money will go to get-out-the-vote programs and outreach to constituencies who shifted toward President Donald Trump in 2024, including Black, Hispanic, and Asian American New Jerseyans. DNC Chair Ken Martin has participated in several campaign events this general election cycle, including an anti-Trump No Kings protest in Montclair.
The DNC had previously announced a pair of $1.5 million investments. The $3 million+ is the most the DNC has ever invested in New Jersey in an off-year election cycle.
“As Donald Trump drives up costs and causes chaos, Democrats are in an incredibly strong position: We have a winning strategy and a winning message,” Martin said in the announcement. “With this investment to turbocharge on the ground GOTV efforts across the state, Democrats are preparing to win big up and down the ballot.”
National Democrats are spending major funds in the Garden State this year. The Democratic Governors Association reserved north of $20 million in ad spending. The Republican Governors Association, meanwhile, has invested more than $6 million into Restore New Jersey, an independent expenditure group backing Ciattarelli’s campaign.
The DNC said the new funds will also be used to hire field staff across the state and for voter contact efforts.
