Building on the redevelopment of the historic St. Lucy’s Tower in Jersey City, a new project will bring 444 luxury rental units to 619 Grove St.
SJP Properties, in partnership with Claremont Development of Morristown and Battery Global Advisors, announced plans for “The Lucy” Sept. 22. The project is being developed with equity partner PCCP.
A Cushman & Wakefield Capital Markets team led by Vice Chairman John Alascio arranged the joint venture on behalf of SJP and Claremont, as well as the financing. Kennedy Wilson serves as construction lender. Harrison-based KL Master Construction Co. will lead construction. Work is set to start this fall.
Built in the late 1880s for the former St. Lucy’s Church, the first phase on Grove Street delivered a 165-bed transitional housing facility in 2023. The Archdiocese of Newark and Catholic Charities partnered with Claremont Development and Arc Building Partners to develop that initial reimagining of the site.

Designed by Princeton-based Michael Graves Architecture, the latest work will give rise to a 24-story tower featuring 431 market-rate and 13 affordable apartments. The development, of course, will also include a variety of amenities.
According to project partners, the design of The Lucy preserves and restores portions of the site’s original church, rectory and school.
The Lucy will feature:
- Rooftop pool, sky lounge, sundeck with BBQs and penthouse bar with skyline views
- Resort-style lobby, coworking and conference rooms
- Fitness center, media and game room
- Bell tower speakeasy, hydroponic garden and multiple lounges with fireplaces
- Coffee bar, Grab & Go market and dog grooming room
- Shuttle service to the PATH train and bicycle storage

Designed by by Mary Cook Associates, residences will include:
- Quartz countertops
- Premium fixtures
- Solar shades
- Top-brand appliances
- And more
“We are proud to preserve the historic character of this site while creating a modern community that reflects Jersey City’s dynamic growth,” said SJP founder and CEO Steven Pozycki.

Claremont Development Managing Partner Richard Sciaretta said the project continues work to expand housing in Jersey City and recognize the history of the neighborhood. “We’re excited to deliver a landmark development that blends heritage and modern living.
“We are proud to have completed the facility for Catholic Charities and are pleased to be partnering with SJP and PCCP on the final phase of the development.”
SJP recently celebrated the start to another monumental project. Earlier this month, project partners held a groundbreaking ceremony in New Brunswick for Nokia Bell Labs’ new headquarters.
