History And More Information
The tradition of the Madonna Dei Martiri festvial goes back to the year 1399, when the King of Napoli, Ladislao di Durazzo, ordered
that a street festival and religious celebration be combined to celebrate the “Miracle” and blessings of the Madonna.
“This celebration is traditionally held on September 8, which is the Universal Feast of the Nativity of Mary,” the organizers noted.
The festival kicks off Thursday at 4 p.m.
It runs along the south waterfront, on Sinatra Drive from First to Third Street.
